THE TEXAS GULF COAST IS AT THE FRONTLINE OF
CLIMATE IMPACTS AND SOLUTIONS
With the scars from Hurricane Harvey and Winter Storm
Uri still visible, one thing is clear: climate change is happening
here and now, and action is needed to make communities and
businesses more climate-ready. While extremely vulnerable to
climate impacts, the Lone Star State is also equipped with a
skilled workforce, vastly productive natural capital, and vibrant
industrial hubs.
In leveraging these assets to bounce back stronger from
severe weather and climate stress, Texans have an opportunity
to boost business and help communities thrive by doing what
Texans do best: turning a challenge into an opportunity for
building a brighter future in a warming world.
EXTREME WEATHER IS THE NEW NORMAL
Over the past two decades, Texas has been hit by more
billion-dollar weather disasters than any other state, with the
Houston area experiencing a large portion of those events.
The densely populated Gulf Coast is vulnerable to hurricanes,
storm surges, sea-level rise, coastal erosion, and flooding.
