OUT These
Big Lies
By Leanne Hoagland-Smith, M.S
new term has emerged into the world:
“knowledge technology”. All are aware
that technology plays an important role
in one’s daily life. Being able to access
information and communicate with
others quickly through various technol-
ogies supports busy business owners as
A well as the average person. Yet, there
continues to be “Big Lies”
surrounding technology.
It can be seen in various
industries and professions such as
business to commercial (B2C) or business
to business (B2B).
Regularly, I receive emails from salespeople
attempting to meet with me to make a sales pitch.
These individuals do not know me but know of my
current and past roles. Whether it is from LinkedIn
or another social media site, the invitations continue
to flood my inbox.
Zig Ziglar stated, “Sales is the transference of
feelings.” How does technology transmit feelings
beyond the little emojis? The simple answer is it does
not.
People buy from people they know and trust.
Making an outreach with either a subtle or overt sales
pitch to an unknown person usually fails. Although
there are exceptions, this option is usually fruitless.
An accompanying fallacy is the importance of
being “paperless.” One must think of having a backup
for when the Internet goes down and one can’t locate
an important file or document.
